UCLA Football: Can Josh Rosen Once Again Be the Best Quarterback in L.A.?

After getting bumped as the best quarterback in the city by a kid across town, Josh Rosen is looking to bounce back and take his rightful place as top QB in Los Angeles.

2016 was a season to forget for the UCLA Football team. They lost their QB halfway through the season and ended 4-8. It was the opposite for the USC Trojans.

USC started as many expected with a 1-4 record coming with losses to Alabama, Stanford and Utah. Many thought it was the end for USC and Head Coach Clay Helton. Actually, it was only the beginning.

The Trojans made a switch at quarterback and redshirt freshman Sam Darnold rattled off 9 wins to go 10-3 with an epic win in the Rose Bowl. It was disgusting to say the least, at least from a UCLA Football fan’s standpoint.

More from Go Joe Bruin

While the Trojans thrived behind Darnold, UCLA had to sit at home watching a team that was not themselves play in the Rose Bowl, a Bowl game they have participated in during the Jim Mora-era. Darnold was the new QB King of L.A. and that was that.

Or is it?

Rosen injured his shoulder, had surgery to repair it and is now ready to once again lead the Bruins back to an 8/9/10 win season… hopefully. The one thing that Rosen’s success hangs on is how he will do with his third offensive coordinator in three years, Jedd Fisch.

Fisch has a lot of work ahead of him as he needs to revamp the offense, get his O-line to work together, have his running backs run and get his receivers to receive. All the while having Rosen direct all of this on the field.

The good news for Fisch is that Rosen is well beyond his years and if he has no lingering side effects from his shoulder, he should succeed in what could be his final season in Westwood. The Bruins have shown they can have success with Rosen, but can they now step it up?

UCLA has a lot to do to get back to winning 8/9/10 wins, and when they do, Rosen will be a big reason why. At that point he will have proven to not only be the QB everyone expected him to, but to be the best QB in Los Angeles, especially when they beat SC and Darnold. Go Bruins!

Spring Practice for the UCLA Football team begins this Tuesday, April 4.
