For the #3 UCLA men’s team, they started the madness taking on #14 Kent State and although the Golden Flash gave the Bruins some trouble, UCLA was ultimately no match in a 97-80 victory.
They followed that up with a ridiculous second half run against #6 Cincinnati. The Bearcats slowed UCLA down to 30 points by halftime (the lowest amount of points in a half for the Bruins this season), but Lonzo Ball and Company turned it on in the second half for a 79-67 win.
Though the men had a west coast advantage starting in Sacramento, the women’s team capitalized on their first and second round locations.
It could not have been a better start for the UCLA Women’s Basketball team in the Round of 64 and 32 than in the confines of Pauley Pavilion. The home crowd backed the Bruins as they destroyed #13 Boise State, 83-56, and then followed that up with a 75-43 blasting of #5 Texas A&M.
Both Bruin teams have reason to celebrate, but now must re-focus because the next stage will be brutal. The men take on #2 Kentucky, which will be the fourth meeting in three years between the two most storied programs in men’s college basketball.
The women have a tougher task a they face #1 Connecticut. If the Bruins win, they will break UCONN’s record 109-game win streak. It can be done.
