UCLA Women’s Basketball: Canada, Billings Receive Pac-12 Honors

Three members of the UCLA Women’s Basketball team received honors from the  Pac-12 and the media for their performances this season.

The UCLA Women’s Basketball team has had an incredible regular season which was topped off by a few awards in the last few days.

On Tuesday, the Pac-12 gave out their annual awards which named junior guard Jordin Canada and senior forward Monique Billings to both the All-Pac-12 team and the Pac-12 All-Defensive tearns.

The duo has been a deadly combination for the Bruins all season, as both averaging nearly 20 points per game.

In all, Canada averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. BIllings was a double-double machine as she maintained 17.1 ppg and 10.8 rpg for the year, with a total of 9 double-doubles.

The conference also recognized sophomore guard Kennedy Burke as an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. Burke was the third best scorer for UCLA with 12.6 ppg.

The media also handed out some awards to the women of the Pac-12  and UCLA’s were nearly identical to their conference honors. Canada and Billings named to the media’s All-Pac-12 and All-Defensive teams.

Canada also received an additional boost from the media as she was named the 2017 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.

WIth all of this talent, the Bruins will look to make a run in the Pac-12 Tournament which begins today for UCLA. If the Bruins can win the conference tournament championship, it will be the first since 2006.
