The UCLA Basketball team did not hold back against the cupcake flavored UCSB team as the Bruins devoured the Gauchos behind incredible nights by TJ Leaf and Lonzo Ball.
At the beginning of the season, one of the things that I hoped the UCLA Basketball team would do is keep their foot on the gas late in games and disallow agonizing comebacks.
Well not only have the Bruins put the pedal to the metal in individual games but they are doing so as a rhythm to the season. The Bruins could have pulled back on the reins and go through the motions of taking on a lesser talented team, but instead they were at full speed.
The Bruins once again put on an offensive show which was fueled by two stellar performances by freshmen Lonzo Ball and TJ Leaf. Both of these young Bruins were too much for the undermanned UCSB squad as both were only a few stats away from a simultaneous triple-double.
Leaf was on fire from the start. At one point early in the game, he was outscoring the Gauchos by himself with 14 points to UCSB’s 12. That eventually led to Leaf’s total of 25 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists.
Ball was also shy of a triple-double, though like Leaf, he had to settle for a double-double. Ball finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.
With these two Bruins leading the way, UCLA was unstoppable, but also had help, especially off the bench as THE 6th Man Aaron Holiday chipped in 20 off the pine. That eventually led to the 102-62 victory for the Bruins, who managed to score more than 100 points for the fifth time this season.
