The UCLA Football team will be heading into the Crosstown Showdown as underdogs against the USC Trojans, but we expected this.

The UCLA Football team got a win against Oregon State on Saturday. Though that is good for morale, the Bruins are going to have to step things up against their next opponent, those pesky USC Trojans.

And why is that? USC is good. UCLA is not.

USC has opened as 10.5 point favorites against the Bruins and there are plenty of reason to back that up. Aside from a six-game win streak that was topped with a victory over #4 Washington on Saturday night, the Trojans have been one of the hottest teams in the nation.

The Bruins on the other hand just won their fourth game of the season against the North Division cellar dwellers, OSU. There were times the Bruins looked good, especially on defense, but they need to do better, especially with the surging Trojans.

UCLA’s season is quickly becoming one to forget, but the Bruins still have work to do. With a win over Oregon State, the Bruins are still in the hunt to become bowl eligible. UCLA needs to win their final two games to reach the 6-win eligibility mark, but that will be no easy task. UCLA needs to beat USC and Cal (in Berkeley) to get eligible.

For now, the Bruins need to focus on just the Trojans. Though they are heavy underdogs, you can never  count out teams in a rivalry game. If the Bruins have it in them to win, they could turn their season around. We will find out in a night game at the Rose Bowl this Saturday as kickoff has been set for 7:30 p.m. PT. Go Bruins!
