UCLA Football vs. ASU: Halftime Report (If You Can Call It That)

The UCLA Football team once again had a listless first half as they are tied with Arizona State 3-3 at halftime.

Let me take you on a journey. One that is keeping the UCLA Football team from putting the ball in the end zone. I did not saying it was a fun journey.

The Bruins entered this game against Arizona State as favorites, but played the first half as if they were newbies in a new system under a new coach. Wait, that is exactly what is happening.

UCLA has struggled getting their offense in order and even six games in, they cannot figure out the run game or the scoring aspect of the contest.

More from Go Joe Bruin

It did not help that UCLA sophomore QB Josh Rosen was playing in pain for the majority of the half. Rosen took a shot early in the first quarter which caused him to get worked out at the trainers table every time he came of the field. He was 11-for-15 for 115 yards in the first half.

With six and a half minutes left in the second quarter, Rosen was replaced by backup QB Mike Fafaul who finished the half on the field. Rosen went to the locker room shortly after.

Either way, in was an unproductive half for the UCLA offense. Want to know how unproductive?

Here is the summary of the Bruins’ drives in the first half: Punt. Missed field goal. Field goal. Punt. Fumble. Missed field goal. Punt. Punt. Punt.

These are the drives that nightmares are made of.

UCLA finished the half with 169 total yards. The bad part (if that wash;t bad enough), they only gained 16 yards on the ground. But it was worse for ASU. They had 68 total yards with only 24 yards on the ground. The takeaway here, the Bruin defense is doing their job.

But let us not get too down, UCLA could very well come back in the second half like they did against Arizona last week. Let us hope.
