UCLA Football vs. Arizona State: Go Joe Bruin Predicts the Game

Another week, another game. Go Joe Bruin predicts the UCLA Football game as this week the Bruins take on Arizona State.

It is game six which means that we are on the sixth edition of Go Joe Bruin Predicts The Game! This week, the UCLA Football team takes on a South Division foe that they have exchanged wins with every year for the last four years.

That team would be the pesky Arizona State Sun Devils. Despite the pattern of the away team winning in the last few seasons, the Bruins have other advantages in their favor as they prepare for a battle in Tempe.

Arizona State is down a quarterback and the Bruin defense has been looking good lately. So if you are thinking what we are thinking, then you might agree with our predictions.

UCLA 38 – Arizona State 20

The Bruins will have a field day against this secondary and force the Sun Devils to have to throw the ball more which white won’t be great at without a running game to take the pressure off of them. UCLA’s offensive line is able to handle some blitzes but with the blitzes resulting in big plays for UCLA the ASU defense becomes more conservative. OL Andre James helps alleviate stress about the tackle position.

UCLA 38 – Arizona State 17
The Bruin defense rattles QB Brady White early, while ASU’s run game struggles to get going. The Bruins start off strong, with a 21-3 lead during half. After the break they come out and a bit slow and let ASU put up a couple touchdowns, but the result was never in question.

UCLA 45 – Arizona State 17

UCLA QB Josh Rosen feasts on an awful secondary. The Bruin defense, in the absence of QB Manny Wilkins, keys to stop the run (which ASU goes away from anyway as the Bruins pull away early). Kennedy Polamalu is the first UCLA OC that ASU Head Coach Todd Graham had faced that’s actually ever seen a blitz and understands how to gameplan accordingly.

UCLA 45 – Arizona State 10

ALL OF THE CARNAGE. Josh Rosen should be able to carve up the ASU secondary with ease. This is the perfect chance for UCLA to get the run game going. UCLA’s tough D should hold up against the back up. I expect them to bring a lot of pressure on Saturday.

UCLA 38 – Arizona State 23

As long as UCLA gets a defensive performance in line with what we’ve seen the last three weeks, the offense should exploit enough of the wide-open gaps in the back end of the utterly horrendous ASU pass defense to put up a big number of points on the way to a nice road victory in the division.

UCLA 41 – Arizona State 35

The Bruins should win this game comfortably. With ASU’s QB likely out, their offense struggle a bit, but they will still find ways to put points on the board. Still, this game will be yet another opportunity for Rosen & Co. to find a good rhythm before they get into the last, more difficult part of the schedule.

UCLA 27 – Arizona State 14

The Bruins beat Arizona last week following a heart break to Stanford, and look to win two in a row vs. ASU on Saturday.

Josh Rosen improved last week in the win, and as he goes against a Sun Devil defense that isn’t known for great play in the secondary, he could very well have a field day against in Tempe.

The running game, particularly the rotation, is more of a question again, but the passing game should be able to play well enough if there is a dropoff there, assuming UCLA’s WR clean things up in the drops department.

ASU has had one of the highest scoring offenses in the nation this year, but with QB Manny Wilkins questionable to play, their offense could be inconsistent.

The Sun Devil running game poses a bigger issue with their two-headed monster of Kalen Ballage and Demario Richard, but the Bruins stout D-line should be able to keep them from having big plays, especially with Kenny Young and Jayon Brown there to help from the linebacker spots.

All things considered, this should be a pretty solid Bruin victory on Saturday.

UCLA 35 – Arizona State 31

I have a feeling UCLA will blow out ASU… or ASU will surprise UCLA keeping this game close. Arizona State will most likely be without starting quarterback Manny Wilkins, which gives me hope that the Bruin defense can limit the Sun Devils, but sometimes you just don’t know how a team like ASU will step up.

Oppositely, you never know when UCLA will play down to their opponents. Hopefully, that culture is behind them and the Bruins come out swinging.
