UCLA Football: Cornerback Jaylan Shaw Commits To UCLA
The UCLA Football team just landed their second DB commit in two days as 3-star cornerback Jaylan Shaw has committed to the Bruins.
It’s been a slow summer of recruiting for UCLA Football, but things finally have taken a turn for the better, as the Bruins picked up the commitment of cornerback Jaylan Shaw (Corona, CA/Centennial) this evening after getting a pledge from safety Chris Wilson (Dickinson, TX/ Dickinson) earlier in the day.

Shaw earned a UCLA offer about a month ago after a standout performance at the Bruin Elite Camp in Westwood and chose to commit to the Bruins over offers from Colorado, USC, and Washington State among others after an unofficial visit to the UCLA campus today sealed the deal.

Shaw is a raw talent who was a backup last season at Centennial, but figures to be the star of the Huskies’ secondary this season after the departures of Pac-12 signees like Kentrell Love and Chacho Ulloa cleared the way for Shaw to take on a much bigger role in that defense. He has an incredibly high ceiling and will have plenty of chances to prove his worth this fall, as Centennial has a schedule chock-full of big-time opponents this fall that will give Shaw plenty of challenges.
Although Shaw played backup minutes last season, he saw his recruiting stock absolutely explode this spring, as he took the 7-on-7 and school camp circuits by storm. Shaw wowed observers with his pure cover corner abilities, as he excelled in man coverage, displayed great quickness, and showed instinctual ball skills. If Shaw plays during the high school season the way that he did in spring camps, he will absolutely be a consensus high 4-star prospect by the time.
After the decommitment of Jeffrey Manning Jr. last weekend, Shaw stands alone as a cornerback commitment in UCLA’s 2017 football recruiting class, but he figures to have company very soon as Bruin legacy Quentin Lake (Santa Ana, CA/Mater Dei), son of UCLA Football legend Carnell Lake, is likely to commit soon to UCLA as a corner.
While UCLA has struggled to land commits at some key positions so far in the class, it’s probably the safest bet of this class that the Bruins are going to bring in a special group in the secondary.
