UCLA Football Appears in AP All-Time Top 25 Ranking
The AP All-Time Top 100 List has been released and the UCLA Bruins made a very strong appearance.
Earlier today, the Associated Press, also known as the God of College Football Rankings, released its first ever Top 100 list. UCLA Football made its debut in the Top 25, ranking at No. 17.

The ranking methodology included total poll appearances over the years, No. 1 rankings, and AP national championships. AP has been ranking college football teams since 1936, which would mean that the compilation of this Top 100 list included 80 years of data.
The Bruins first appeared in the AP Poll in 1939, and the team has shown up in the rankings a total of 521 times. UCLA has only had seven No. 1 rankings, and it is the highest ranked team in the poll with no AP national championships.
The one year the Bruins got the national championship, you know, when they shared it with Ohio State in 1954, the AP title went to the Buckeyes. Ohio State topped the AP All-Time list this year, so they probably did not need to get the 1954 title all to themselves, but we will let bygones be bygones.
UCLA’s No. 17 ranking in this list is nothing but impressive. Teams ranked in the Top 25 are arguably the best of the best in college football, which includes prestigious programs such as Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, and yes, even USC.

But the significance of this impressive achievement is that, for 80 years, the Bruins keep showing promise but falling short. Last year, UCLA ranked No. 13 in the AP Preseason Poll, but missed its chance of appearing in the Final Poll after posting a disappointing 8-5 season. In 2014, the year we thought would be the one, the Bruins started at No. 7 in the preseason, only to slide and end the season at No. 14.
The AP Preseason Poll for the upcoming fall will be released later this month. The Bruins will likely debut in the lower Top 25 this year, between 22 and 24, although some believe UCLA will be left out. After 80 years of rankings, will the Bruins deliver this time?
