The UCLA Athletic Department announced today that Josh Lewin will be the new “Voice of the Bruins”, replacing Bill Roth after one year.

UCLA Football and Basketball fans will have to get used to a new voice this fall as both teams will have a new play-by-play announcer.

Josh Lewin is the new “Voice of the Bruins”, and is replacing Bill Roth who was the play-by-play announcer for the 2015-16 season for both Bruin football and basketball.

According to UCLABruins.com, “Lewin, who has more than two decades of experience calling NFL, MLB, NHL and NCAA football and basketball contests, will be entering his 12th season as the voice of the San Diego Chargers this fall and is currently in his fifth season handling play-by-play duties for the New York Mets.

Despite his already busy schedule, Lewin will manage to fit in both UCLA football and basketball around the Chargers and the Mets, and what a time to do it.

This season, UCLA Football will look to build off an 8-5 record from last year with sophomore quarterback extraordinaire Josh Rosen. The UCLA Basketball team is also in an upswing as they look to improve with incoming talent from 5-star ballers Lonzo Ball and T.J. Leaf.

Lewin replaces Roth who only worked with UCLA for one season. Roth was hired in April 2015 to take over for retiring play-by-play announcer Chris Roberts.

Though he cherished his time at UCLA, Roth stated, “While UCLA is a magical place, my roots are back East and unexpectedly, I missed home more than I ever imagined possible. Candidly, I just did not feel I could do this job to the best of my ability. I appreciate all the support I received from IMG and UCLA as I came to this decision and thank the entire Bruin family for giving me this truly remarkable opportunity.”

As for Lewin, he said “Calling games for UCLA is the best job in college sports as far as I’m concerned. I’m fortunate to work for two tremendous organizations in the San Diego Chargers and New York Mets, and to think I now get to do this for UCLA is both incredible and an absolute honor.”
