The UCLA Football team lands a huge commitment from 4-star defensive end Jaelan Phillips.

Can we get a “BOOM!” for the UCLA Football team? The Bruins just landed one of the biggest prospects on the west coast as Jaelan Phillips has committed to UCLA!

On September 19, 2015, Defensive Line Coach Angus McClure offered a scholarship to 2017 Defensive End Jaelan Phillips (Redlands, CA/Redlands East Valley High School.)

Phillips was also in attendance for the UCLA-BYU game that night and referred to the offer as his “dream” offer.  Phillips has many ties to UCLA, as his father, his grandfather, and his grandmother all went to UCLA.

Although Phillips had 20+ offers, it was mainly a two-team race throughout the Defensive End’s recruitment.

More from Go Joe Bruin

The Stanford Cardinal and UCLA went back in forth in Phillips’ recruitment.  The academics of Stanford, and the ties with the Bruins are what set the schools apart from the rest.

This past weekend, Phillips took a trip to Westwood with his parents to attend UCLA spring practice.  Jaelan’s mom and dad happened to be decked out top to bottom in UCLA gear, a reoccurring situation for his father.

It is no secret that Jaelan’s father is a UCLA Bruin.  The 4-star Defensive End followed practice with a campus visit, being accompanied by Hunter Echols.

Yesterday morning, Phillips released his Top 5 schools, and announced he would be committing today at noon.

"4's Up"

The pledge from Phillips is #5 for UCLA Football and is a big one. Phillips brings an outstanding frame (6’5″/230) and polished pass-rushing skills to the table. His commitment adds even more depth to a unit that has done well on the recrung trail and is something the Bruins look to improve with.
