UCLA Football: CBS Names Josh Rosen Freshman of the Year

CBS listed their college football players of the year and UCLA Football’s own QB Josh Rosen was named Freshman of the Year.

If there is one thing the UCLA Football team has going for them, it is the fact that they will have a very good sophomore quarterback leading the offense in 2016.

Just days after being named to the FWAA All-Freshman team, Rosen was selected as the Freshman of the Year in the CBS Sports Player of the Year Awards.

More from Go Joe Bruin

Rosen had a record-breaking year as a true freshman with UCLA as he led them to an 8-5 record in 2015. Rosen had thrown for 3,668 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and ended with a 134.3 efficiency and 60% passing completion as he averaged 282.2 passing yards per game.

Despite a lackluster end to the season, Rosen and the Bruins have a lot going for them heading into 2016. UCLA Football Head Coach Jim Mora had recently hired (promoted) Kennedy Polamalu and Marques Tuiasosopo to take over the vacant offensive coordintor and quarterbacks coaching positions.

These spots were recently vacated by Noel Mazzone and Taylor Mazzone who left the Bruins for positions with Texas A&M.

With a new offensive mindset in place, Mora assured that UCLA will use more fullbacks and tight ends in their schemes, making the offense more dynamic which will help Rosen continue to succeed at UCLA.

The other awards presented by CBS Sports went to Christian McCaffrey of Stanford as he was named the Offensive Player of the Year while Penn State’s Carl Nassib was named Defensive Player of the Year.
