The #15 UCLA Women’s Basketball team dominated opening weekend in the Pac-12 which was topped off with an upset victory over #11 Oregon State to go 3-0 in conference. Boom.

The UCLA Women’s Basketball team is rolling. After a promising non-conference, the Bruins are starting things off in the Pac-12 with a bang. UCLA just won 4 straight games, 3 of them to start Pac-12 play, 2 of which were against previously undefeated teams and 1 against the 11th ranked teaming the nation.

So yeah, the women of Westwood tearing it up right now.

Last Wednesday, the Bruins took out crosstown rival USC, 78-73, giving the Trojans their first “L” of the season. On Saturday, the Bruins once again gave a previously undefeated team their first blemish as the beat Oregon, 80-69.

Last night, the Bruins finished the trifecta in stunning fashion as they shocked #11 Oregon State 71-51. On top of quality shooting from Nirra Fields, Jordin Canada and the rest of the Bruins, and defense that once again had their opponent shooting less than 40% from the field, UCLA was able to get their third convincing win which has gotten them an early first-place place position in the Pac-12.

If you are not aware, this Bruin team has been in the making since last year. The Bruins struggled late in the season, and missed the NCAA Tournament. Yet something clicked as they pulled off six straight wins in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament, which includes victories over Michigan and West Virginia, to become the 2015 WNIT Champions.

The future was bright for the Bruins especially with leading scorer Nirra Fields coming back for her senior season. What would make her even more dangerous was being paired up with the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Jordin Canada.

This year we are seeing that chemistry develop into one of the hottest back courts in the country. Currently, Fields and Canada, respectively, are 5th and 7th in conference in scoring. That has helped make the UCLA Women’s Basketball team second in the conference in scoring (82.5 ppg) only to Oregon, whom the Bruins beat on Saturday.

Needless to say, these Bruins are hot right now and do not show any signs of slowing down, which will be interesting as their schedule gets a bit tougher.

The Bruins now embark on a 3-game road trip which starts at USC on Sunday, and then up to the Washington schools the following week. If you have not been paying attention to these Bruins, well UCLA fans, now is the time.
