UCLA Football: Introducing the MAKE PLAYS! Podcast

If you’re all caught up on the What’s Bruin Show and are looking for another college sports podcast, allow me to recommend MAKE PLAYS! College Football Podcast.

As those of you who follow me on Twitter may be aware, I cohost the MAKE PLAYS! College Football Podcast. Each week, two or three of us that met through the Reddit college football forum get together and talk about everyone’s favorite sport.

The other regular cohosts are a Notre Dame fan and a Michigan State fan, and they did the show on their own during the 2014 season, with the occasional guest.

This summer, they wanted to add a third for conversational flow and to expand the show’s geographic footprint, so they added me, a UCLA fan who lives in Washington DC!

We have a lot of fun and don’t take ourselves too seriously. We make fun of each other and of teams we don’t like (mainly USC and Michigan).

We certainly talk about our own teams, but not overwhelmingly. So you’ll definitely hear my take on UCLA news, as well as USC and the larger Pac-12 picture.

We bring on guests who write or podcast elsewhere – or sometimes just folks we know who follow various teams, for an insider’s perspective on a given story. This year we spoke to an Oklahoma fan after the loss to Texas and to a Miami fan after the crazy win over Duke.

Previous guests have also included Ty Hildenbrandt of the hugely successful Solid Verbal podcast, Kevin McGuire of NBC.com’s College Football Talk, and a groundskeeper from an unnamed SEC school to talk all things sod and playing surfaces.

We plan to go strong through the off-season. This most recent episode (embedded below) is our bowl review podcast. Later this week, we’re recording a National Championship preview podcast. Next week we’ll do a championship recap. After that, we may tip our hats to college basketball, talk about signing day or whatever other topics and opportunities come to mind in the offseason. We’re also working on a couple more higher profile guests. So stay tuned!

I just wanted to share this podcast with the loyal readers of Go Joe Bruin. I’ll advise you that if you only listen to one college sports-related podcast, make it the What’s Bruin Show put out by Mike, Jake, and Bill – and posted here at Go Joe Bruin. But if you have time for a second one, give MAKE PLAYS! a try.
