UCLA Women’s Basketball Moves Up In The Polls

The UCLA Women’s Basketball team has moved up to the #19 spot in this week’s AP Poll.

After a 5-2 start, which is very good considering the teams the UCLA Women’s Basketball team has been playing, the Bruins have moved up one spot to #19 after a victory over Michigan in Ann Arbor this past Sunday where the Bruins won 86-77.

More from Go Joe Bruin

The Bruins are currently on a two-game win streak as they came back from the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas at the end of November going 1-1 in the tournament with a win over Louisiana Tech and a 92-84 loss to #2 Notre Dame.

Interestingly enough, the only other loss the UCLA Women’s Basketball team suffered was to another top-ranked opponent. A week before the tournament in the Bahamas, the Bruins hosted #2 South Carolina at Pualey Pavilion and nearly came up with a victory. UCLA eventually fell in a hard-fought game, 68-65.

So far this season, the Bruins are led in scoring by Jordin Canada (18.1 ppg), Nirra Fields (15.3 ppg) and Monique Billings (14.0 ppg). Canada is leading the Bruins with 6.1 assists per game, while Fields has a team-high 2.6 steals per game. Cleaning up the glass, Billings is ahead of all Bruins with 9.1 rebounds per game.
