UCLA Kicker Ka’Imi Fairbairn Sets Field Goal Record (Video)
UCLA Kicker Ka’Imi Fairbairn sets a school record for longest kick as he nails a 60-yard field goal as time expires in the second half.
For all the guff UCLA kicker Ka’Imi Fairbairn has had to put up with at his time in Westwood, he not only showed the haters that he has what it takes to help out the Bruins in key moments, but he also has what it takes to be a UCLA legend. Let us go to the tape…
"Retweet to vote for Ka’imi Fairbairn (4 FG incl record 60-yarder) as Player-of-the-game. #CALvsUCLA #BruinRevolution https://t.co/DjXoTbCjtC— UCLA Athletics (@UCLAAthletics) October 23, 2015"
It was just as beautiful in person as it is on the screen. Fairbairn is now forever sealed in UCLA Football history as he nailed a school-record 60-yard field goal. With the seconds ticking down in the first half, UCLA was marching down the field with less than a minute after a Cal touchdown which made it 23-10.
Behind Josh Rosen, the Bruins were able to get past midfield to the Cal 37 in a span of 37 seconds. With UCLA ready to attempt a field goal, a false start was called, pushing the Bruins back 5 yards. With 8 seconds left, there was not a lot of options left to go through, so the call was made for the attempt.
If Fairbairn misses, he misses and it was an impossible shot to begin with. If he makes it UCLA goes up 26-10 going into the half and the entire Fairbairn-hating world would be turned on its head.
Fairbairn made it.
A 60-yard prayer sailed through the uprights and lifted Fairbairn into UCLA history. It was beautiful. On top of that, Fairbairn hit all four of his field goals, helping UCLA overcome their big brother from the north.
Whatever the perception of Fairbairn was before, is no longer as he is now a legitimate kicking threat, a UCLA record holder and one of your most favorite Bruins!
