Another Fall Thursday, another #8Clap from the 2017 recruiting class, as junior strong safety Rhedi Short from Cathedral committed to UCLA on Thursday afternoon.

After young defensive back Rhedi Short (Los Angeles, CA/Cathedral) jumped off to a remarkable start to his high school junior season, recruiting attention was always likely to follow. And when UCLA followed up on its interest in Short and doubled down on it with a scholarship offer, Short wasted no time in immediately jumping on that offer and committing to UCLA defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin and the Bruins.

"Beyond blessed to say I've received my first offer and committed to UCLA"

As Short explains in his announcement tweet above, he received his first offer yesterday from UCLA and committed on the spot to the Bruins. Short is a 6-foot-1 strong safety who is clearly unafraid to throw his weight around, as he absolutely thumps multiple ball-carriers in his early junior season film, and has the range to be a classic centerfielder-type safety, which he has shown in already racking up 11 pass breakups just four games into this young season at Cathedral:

Remarkably, Short is already the third high school junior to commit to UCLA despite the fact that the class of 2017 is generally not supposed to be a major focus in recruiting until the senior class before it, 2016, has its Signing Day in early February. But the Bruins have gotten a jump start with three early commitments, all on defense, from Short, linebacker Jaquan Henderson (Covington, GA/Newton), and linebacker Rahyme Johnson (Los Angeles, CA/Salesian),

Welcome to Westwood, Rhedi!
