It looks as though UCLA Football Head Coach Jim Mora had some explaining to do, on his on volition. During today’s meeting with the media, the Bruin boss had talked about what happened with freshman quarterback Josh Rosen yesterday in practice.

On Wednesday, after some drills where Mora did not think Rosen was playing with urgency, he let the freshman know with some choice words. With the normal coach banter that is expected from football programs, the most eye-opening comment from Mora came when he turned to the media and said, “That is why he has not been named the starter.”

Today, Mora hd talked about it which you can see in this video courtesy of

As Go Joe Bruin’s resident footballer Jake Merrifield can attest to, Mora’s rant at Rosen is not only necessary, it is normal. It is football.

Joey Kaufman of the Orange County Register had a great article on the defense and how things are getting “confusing”. Aside from bringing all different kinds of pressure, the Bruins look to man-handle their opponents.

One of the quotes Kaufman got from linebacker junior Deon Hollins is pretty telling of what we have seen in practice and will see to an even greater extent on Saturdays this fall. “One of the (things) Coach [Tom] Bradley (stresses) is confusion. We’re going to confuse people and beat people up. He likes to say that a lot.”

On the injury front, DE Takkarist McKinley has a concussion. OLs Jake Brendel and Conor McDermott are still recovering from calf and knee injuries, respectively and will return to practice on Monday.
