    Honorable Mentions from UCLA:

OL Caleb Benenoch, TE Thomas Duarte, AP/ST Ryan Hofmeister, WR Jordan Payton, RB Paul Perkins, OL Alex Redmond, OL Scott Quessenberry, DL Eddie Vanderdoes, DB Jaleel Wadood

First off, congratulations to all those players named.

Secondly, what conference was the Pac-12 looking at? It is a bit of a slap in the face that the conference’s leading rusher, Paul Perkins, was only an honorable mention. How is it that USC’s Javorius “Buck” Allen got a first team selection while Perkins only get an honorable mention? In the UCLA-USC game, Perkins ran for 93 yards while Allen could only manage 60. It was that game that Perkins eclipsed Allen to take over as the Pac-12’s leading rusher.

Additionally, how did the Pac-12 and the nation’s leading solo tackler, Eric Kendricks, not make the first team? It is definitely an honor to be selected to the second team, but when naming the best of the best, the bottom line is that Kendricks is the best. There could also be an argument that he should have gotten Pac-12 defensive player of the year, but that is for another time.

Though the Bruins seem to have been looked over, it was good to see the second team defense riddled with UCLA defensemen. This was a squad that had a lot of questions surrounding them in the middle of the season yet found a way to pull it together and play as a solid unit towards the end of the season.

    Go Bruins!
