What Bowl Will UCLA Football Play In?

More from UCLA Bruins Football

So we know the UCLA football team will not being playing in the Pac-12 Championship Game in Santa Clara, California at Lev’s Stadium, which only begs the question, what bowl WILL UCLA Football play in? Looking around at all the experts predictions and reading up on what teams certain bowl committees are looking to get, there are at least four that the Bruins could be going to.

Still, knowing that this is all speculation as we have to wait for all the conference championship games to crown a new champion, nothing will be resolved until Sunday when the College Football Playoff selection committee names their final four that will participate in the first ever playoffs. After that, the rest of the bowl world will claim their teams.

Here are the four Bowls that UCLA could possibly play in:

Not exactly the type of bowl the Bruins were hoping to play in at the start of the season. UCLA will play here if by chance the other bowls do not select them to participate in their post-season festivities. The good news is, it will be against the Big Ten, which has not done well lately and it is possible that UCLA gets matched with one of their middle-of-the-road teams.

Big Ten vs. Pac-12

Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, California

This bowl would be ideal for UCLA and their fans due to the proximity. San Diego is a quick 2-hour drive down the 5 Freeway to one of the most beautiful cities in the nation. The weather is not bad either, who would not want to go here? Well, UCLA if it means a larger national presence and audience if they were to be selected by the remaining bowl committees I will present to you. If UCLA wants to show that they are an up-and-coming team with a bright further, they need to show that they can win big games against big teams. That is why the final two possibilities would be a great stepping stone to next season.

Not a premier bowl, but it will get a lot of attention due to the fact that it will be played after New Year’s Day, something that has not happened for UCLA in quite a while. The reason the Bruins could go bowling here is if Oregon gets to the playoffs and Arizona gets the Fiesta Bowl selection. The Bruins, as the third best team in the conference, could be selected by the Alamo Bowl seeing as they get first selection of the remaining Pac-12 teams.

It is possible you might have read the title of the bowl game and thought “No way!” But there could be a way. According to Kyle Kenisng of Bleacher Report (via Brett McMurphy of ESPN), if Arizona gets completely obliterated by Oregon, a three-loss Arizona team could look less favorable than a three-loss UCLA team. The Bruins could get chosen by the College Football Playoff selection committee seeing as UCLA dismantled the Wildcats in early November. Now how about that for a turn of events.
