So… are you impressed by this UCLA basketball team? No? Well you will in due time. The Bruins have showed that they are a team that could be better than last season and it is due to the collection of players that was previously thought to not make waves. Well they are making waves now and because of that, they are scoring in bunches, grabbing a mass amount of rebounds and playing the up-tempo style of basketball that is required of head coach Steve Alford‘s system. Here is the game information for Nicholls State Vs UCLA:

Preview: The Bruins got a bit of reality in their last game as NCAA Tournament-worthy team Coastal Carolina gave the Bruins something to fight for as they needed a second half surge to put away a very good Big South Conference team. Today, it will be against a team that does not have as much talent as the Chanticleers. The Nicholls State Colonels are not Coastal Carolina. The Colonels were a 14-15 team last year coming out of the Southland Conference that does not have a lot in terms of firepower or defense.

More from UCLA Bruins Basketball

In their first game against North Texas, not only did both teams shoot less than 35%, but the Colonels were beat by 14 points. Talk about insult to injury. Nicholls State only shot 33% (21-of-63) and was way worse from behind the 3-point line at 20% (5-of-25). Their top three scores, Ja’Dante’ Frye, Amin Torres and Liam Thomas, are all 6’4″ and under, which means that if they cannot shot from outside, their other option would to try to go inside and that is not going to happen with UCLA’s plethora of big men.

Speaking of big men, keep an eye on 6’8″ freshman forward Kevon Looney who got his first career double-double against Coastal Carolina as he grabbed 12 rebounds to go with his 17 points. He is a versatile big man that can work from both inside and outside the paint and even has a nice 3-point shot to go with it.

As far as scoring as a team, there will be plenty of that to go around as all five starters, including Looney, have scored in double-digit figures in the first two games. Norman Powell, Bryce Alford, Tony Parker and Isaac Hamilton have all found their individual ways to score as baskets are coming from both inside, outside and even off the bench. Freshman 7’0″ center Thomas Welsh is proving to be an inside threat as he is averaging 9.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Essentially, these Bruins will score a lot this season. Look for them to continue that feat tonight against The Colonels.
