After as strong defensive showing against the now #21 Arizona Wildcats (6-2, 3-2), the UCLA Bruins (7-2, 4-2) have moved up seven spots in both the Coaches and AP Polls to #18. UCLA had defeated Arizona 17-7 in a game where the Bruins shut out the high-powered Wildcats offense in three quarters. Arizona only scored in the first drive of the game when they were allowed to continue marching down the field due to UCLA penalties after the Bruins stopped them on third down twice. After that, the Bruin defense completely shut down the Wildcat offense for the remaining 56 1/2 minutes of the game.

The Bruins have now won three games in a row after back-to-back losses to Utah and Oregon. Though each of these games were fairly close in score, this defeat against Arizona felt a bit more satisfying. Ishmael Adams had blocked a field goal attempt with two minutes left in the game to get the ball back for the Bruins. On Arizona’s final drive, Tahaan Goodman had made a big interception to secure the win for UCLA.
The Bruins have three games remaining on their regular season schedule. Next weekend they travel up to Washington for a 4 p.m. PT showdown followed with a bye week. UCLA then finishes up at the Rose Bowl with games against USC and Stanford.
