Brett Hundley and Ishmael Adams Receive Pac-12 Player of the Week Honors

UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, while defensive back and special teams connoisseur Ishmael Adams was named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week. This is the third time in five weeks a Bruin has been named a Pac-12 POTW and the fifth time a UCLA player has been chosen overall. In Week 1, Eric Kendricks received Defensive Player of the Week against Virginia while Jerry Neuheisel and Adams received Offensive Player and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, in Week 3 against Texas.

In Hundley’s return from inury, the Bruin QB looked anything but rusty as he orchestrated a dominating performance over then #15 ranked Arizona State. Hundley had passed for 355 yards (averaging 15.4 yards on each pass) with 4 touchdowns. He also ran for 71 more yards and a TD. If there was any doubt Hundley would play, but also perform up to the standards everyone pinned him to before the season, they were now gone after his performance. With this, the Bruin QB might just be putting himself back in the Heisman picture if he continues to perform like this.

Ishmael Adams was on another level as he was not only a Special Teams madman (as the Pac-12 honor suggests) but he was also a beast on defense. Adams was a pest toward the Sun Devil receiving unit all night, but succeeded in getting under the skin of ASU back-up QB Mike Bercovici as Adams picked him off at the Bruin 5-yard line and took it back for a 95-yard touchdown. Adams improved on that feat as he not only returned a kickoff for a 100-yard score, but picked up a total of 201 return yards for the game. With all that was going on with him, it is a bit surprising he did not get defensive player of the week as well.

Although his defensive efforts did not go unnoticed as, according to UCLABruins.com, he was named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll and named the Athlon Sports National Defensive Player of the Week. This was also Adams’ second time receiving Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week.

Go Bruins!
