UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley has once again been named to a pre-season award watch list, this time for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. From their website, the award “bears the name of the man who many refer to as the finest quarterback to ever play the game of football.” For Hundley, it is the fourth award watch list he has been named to as he was listed for the Maxwell, Davey O’Brien and the Walter Camp awards.

Brett Hundley is entering his third season starting for the UCLA Bruins. He enters the season with a 19-8 record which was topped off last year with the team’s first 10-win season since 2005 and a victory over Virginia Tech in the Hyundai Sun Bowl. This fall, Hundley and the Bruins will be looking to improve on that by trying to lock down a trip to the Pac-12 Championship Game, and as many are predicting, a spot in the first College Football Playoffs.

Just as well, the Pac-12 is fully represented for this award as Connor Halliday (Washington State), Kevin Hogan (Stanford), Taylor Kelly (Arizona State), Cody Kessler (USC), Sean Mannion (Oregon State) and Marcus Mariota (Oregon) have all been named to the prestigious award list.

This list not only recognizes that the Pac-12 is full of elite quarterbacks, but may solidify the fact that it is the “Conference of Quarterbacks”. For Hundley to be in such great company is an honor, but when it comes down to it, he has to go out on the field and prove how great his talents are. We will all be able to see the beginning of that on Saturday, August 30 when the Bruins play their first game of the season at Virginia.
