After Stanford tied UCLA Athletics for most championships at 113, it is time for Bruins to start looking at Stanford as a rival and bring them to their knees.

UCLA Athletics has a huge thorn in its side, Stanford be thy name. Today, Stanford tied UCLA for the most National Championships among all Division I schools after the Cardinal beat the Bruins for the women’s water polo championship.

This aggression will not stand.

For the longest time, UCLA had the lead for most national championships. That lead had been slowly shrinking in recent seasons with the rise of Stanford. Stanford, Stanford, Stanford.

Now it is time for all UCLA teams to make like a bull and run through the Cardinal when they see that shade of red. Stanford, though a fantastic educational and athletic institution, is no UCLA and the fact that Stanford has caught the Bruins stings.

More from Go Joe Bruin

From losing nine in a row in football to losing three out of the last four women’s water polo championships to Stanford, UCLA needs to metaphorically “chop the tree”.

It is time for the Bruins to start eyeing the Cardinal as a rival and start treating them as so. Whenever UCLA has Stanford on the schedule, they should see red, and not just because Stanford utilizes that disgusting color (aren’t they basically USC north?).

The mentality of the Bruins should from this day forward be to “smash the Cardinal”.

Can you imagine how the Stanford faithful are looking at this? They are praising the efforts of their teams and mocking UCLA.

The UCLA fan base has to counter this by getting behind every single one of their teams, especially when Stanford is on the calendar or the Bruins are competing for a national championship. It is a must.

UCLA needs to have a more aggressive take on winning and it is about time the Bruins start playing with their claws out. Not playing dirty like USC, but playing with the intent to destroy the Mighty Cardinal. Now I feel better. Go Bruins.
