Another BOOM! Former UCLA Football defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes has been selected 88th by the Oakland Raiders.

Oh how we envy you, Raiders fans!

Serving as the anchor for this UCLA Football defense for the past 4 seasons, one of which was lost to injury, Vanderdoes is a gem in this 2017 NFL Draft DT class. Positives:

Vanderdoes is stout. He can take on double teams and is a nightmare one on one. He uses his hands well to punch, and shed blocks in the run game.

More from Go Joe Bruin

His lateral quickness allows him to get from guard to guard in the blink of an eye. He reads his run keys well and actually has a nice initial burst to close on ball carriers.

In the pass game Vanderdoes can give you a push inside and will use his spin move to defeat interior linemen. He’s no Geno Atkins inside but for a 4-3 defense he’s a player that can stay on the field for all three downs.

Negatives:

There are still injury concerns with his health after he tore his ACL in 2015. Despite showing no ill effects in 2016, no one can be sure how well his knees will hold up in the NFL. His weight has fluctuated during his time at UCLA and is better served playing around 305lbs versus the 325lbs he played at in college.

Final:

An extremely versatile DT in a class that isn’t as deep as some of the other positions, Vanderdoes is a steal. He is also helped out by Caleb Brantley being charged with a violent offense just days before the draft. Vanderdoes is a guy that can play in the league for six to eight years and give a another defensive stalwart along their line.
