UCLA Football: UCLA Hires “Mental Conditioning” Coach

facebooktwitterreddit

In the offseason UCLA Football Coach Jim Mora hired Trevor Moawad, a “mental conditioning coach” to help the Bruins. Both players and coaches have raved about the positive impact Maowad has had on the program.

I was beginning to think that unless the UCLA Football team was able to adapt and make a change, that Bruin’s ceiling was going to be a 9-10 wins a season. Good, but not quite where I wanted us to go as a fan.

There’s been an offseason development that gives me a lot of optimism that UCLA might finally become the consistent team we’ve hoped for.

If you’ve been watching the interviews for fall camp you’ll notice almost every player has mentioned Trevor Moawad and the impact he’s had on the team as a sort of “mental conditioning coach”.

Players frequently mention how he’s managed to help boost team camaraderie and has helped individual players take a mindset that allows them to fulfill their potential as a player.

If you’re unfamiliar with Moawad, his resume on his website includes being on the sidelines for 5 of the last 6 BCS Championship or CFB playoff games at Alabama and Florida State. Additionally professional athletes such as Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and 4 time olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson have have also written testimonials about his work.

In particular I’m hoping Moawad’s influence will help the Bruin’s overcome their penalty problem.

It’s no secret that the Bruins rack up more flags than just about anyone else in the conference year in and year out. While Mora has made an effort in the past to fix the penalty issue, I believe Moawad’s influence might help. A promising sign: in fall camp there’s been fewer penalties thrown than in previous years.

In the Mora era, UCLA has always been within striking distance of achieving College Football greatness, but seems to fall just short every year. Hopefully this year Moawad’s influence can help push the Bruins into realizing their potential.
