UCLA Gymnastics: Bruins Advance to Super Six, Danusia Francis Is A Champion

The UCLA Gymnastics team is heading to the Super Six and along the way, senior Danusia Francis became a National Champion.

The UCLA Gymnastics team kept their National Championship hopes alive with a third place finish in the NCAA semifinals on Friday. With a score of 196.700, the Bruins were able to secure a spot in the Super Six Team Finals which will take place later this evening.

This will be the 19th time UCLA Gymnastics will be participating in the NCAA Finals. The Bruins will be joined by Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida, LSU and Georgia.

UCLA had good performances on the uneven bars, floor exercises and the vault, but it was their work on the balance beam that kept them in the competition. With six Bruins performing, UCLA was able to land a collective score of 49.3625.

The top performance came from senior Danusia Francis who scored a 9.925 (get a perfect 10 from one of the judges).

She shares a part of the balance beam National Championship with Bridget Sloan of Florida and is the second consecutive Bruin to win this after UCLA’s Samantha Peszek won it in 2015. The title is UCLA’s 34th individual championship overall, good for 2nd in the NCAA.
