If you remember if the first game of the UCLA Bruins (4-0, 1-0) season against Virginia, Ishmael Adams had ran a kickoff back for a touchdown, only for it to be called back on an absurd penalty. Whilst on the return, Priest Willis, who was on special teams, got his helmet knocked off and promptly put it back on. For whatever reason it is a penalty (I understand safety reason, so what is more safe than putting your helmet back on, but that is not the point) the play was nullified.
As we saw on the Pac-12 Network’s ‘The Drive’ that covered the Virginia game, head coach Jim Mora had apologized to Adams about the penalty. Adams shrugged it off and said to his coach, I’ll get another one.” Here is that other one:
Getting one back is what he did against Arizona State on Thursday night as Adams caught a kickoff and returned it 100 yards for the score. Not only that, he added 95 more yards in a display of defensive strength.
There is still a full schedule of Pac-12 football games to be played on Saturday, but I am already giving my vote for Ishmael Adams as Special Teams and Defensive Player of the Week.
The question is now, with Adams getting one back for UCLA, how many more can he get this season?
