College football is such a wild, random sport. Even though the UCLA Bruins had a bye week, they find themselves one spot higher in the AP Poll, moving up to #11. In the Amway Coaches Poll, the Bruins remain at #10.

The Bruins seemed to benefit from LSU losing 29-34 to Mississippi State. The Tigers were previously ranked 8th before dropping to 17th.

Whether you think that UCLA was jobbed in the first three weeks of the poll, the Bruins seem to be in the right spot four weeks in. UCLA had dropped four spots after a win at Virginia and then dropped one spot the following week after a win against Memphis which put them at 2-0. The games were perceived as underachieving as UCLA was ranked #7 to start the season. The Bruins were thought to have “escaped” in those games.

UCLA then followed that up with a stunning performance by back-up quarterback Jerry Neuheisel after Brett Hundley left the game early with an elbow injury. UCLA stayed at #12 after that win and a 3-0 record.

This week the Bruins face Arizona State on Thursday night for their first Pac-12 conference game of the season.
