UCLA is dipping into the state of Oklahoma for a high school recruit. They were able to get Cain Brackney who is the No. 16 ranked player and No. 4 linebacker in the state of Oklahoma. This moved UCLA into the No. 17 spot of the rankings for 2027 recruiting classes. As they continue to catapult up the rankings by bringing in more and more recruits. It has been fascinating to watch the job that Bob Chesney and his staff are doing for the culture and future of UCLA football.

Brackney had a tremendous junior season at Bixby high school. Totaling 102 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and two sacks. The soon to be senior is 6’1 an 220 pounds and will only continue to get stronger as he gets older and to college. This is a really good addition for UCLA as they’re showing they can pull away recruits from big schools. Something they have not been able to do for many years. Brackney was also heavily recruited by Michigan, Arkansas and Iowa State.

Chesney’s forte is defense and he is bringing in some really good recruits that will build a ferocious defense. Paired with two of the top four safeties in the state of California in Khalil Terry and Pole Moala. There will continue to be more top-rated players that come in for the 2027 class. The first full class for the Chesney era has the possibility of being a top 10 class and starting to build a powerhouse for this defense.

UCLA will see a ton of progress in the 2026 season compared to 2025. It is very possible that they can make a ball game and win seven or eight games. They have a lot of experienced players that mix with the younger eligibility players. Then when the 2027 class comes in, they will add a good mixture to this team. Allowing them to develop and have multiple years with the school. The rebuild has been fast tracked at an enormous pace under the new staff.
