John Blackwell is a dynamic guard from Wisconsin who hit the transfer portal. He played three years for the Badgers and is highly sought after in the portal. He just recently cut down his list to six teams. According to Jonathan Givony of Draft Express, UCLA is one of those teams in the mix. This would be an absolutely huge get if UCLA was able to land Blackwell. The guy can flat out score the basketball and at 6’4 provides tremendous size for a guard.

Blackwell also is a really good rebounder averaging 5.1 per game. He can get the ball out into transition and help run the offense with Trent Perry. His elite shooting at 38.9% on 7.3 attempts per night would help space the floor well. More than capable of stepping in and replacing the production that Skyy Clark leaves behind. While also adding more of an offensive game getting to the bucket as well. Averaging 19.1 points per game last year.

UCLA has been very active in the transfer portal as soon as it opened. They landed Filip Jović and Sergej Macura, who should slot in and help the team this upcoming season. They have also been linked to other players such as Azavier Robinson. The Bruins know they need to get past the round of 32 and break this curse they’re on. Being a top program in the history of college basketball, they know they need to do better.

Being top six still makes them a long shot as it gives them a 16.7% chance. But that is 16.7% more if they were not in the top six. It also shows that recruits and transfers are interested in going to UCLA. So, even if they’re not able to land Blackwell who has one year of eligibility remaining. There are still a ton of players still out there that they could make moves after. Especially with three open scholarships still available to give out.
