UCLA enters tonight’s game against Arizona State as 9.5-point favorites. Oddsmakers seem to believe that UCLA will get back on track after their loss to No. 8 Gonzaga. A game in which they were 10.5 point underdogs and hung with the Zags for majority of the game. UCLA sits at 7-3 on the season while Arizona State is at 9-2. The Sun Devils are on a three game winning streak after sneaking by Santa Clara on Saturday 82-79. They can score the ball very well at 80.7 points per game and shoot well from 3-point range at 39.2% per night.

Arizona State is led by Maurice Odum at 16.7 points per game. He has shown the ability to be able to shoot the lights out of a gym. But does battle inconsistency at times. He is one of the rare players that shoots better from 3-point range than the field. As he is a 42.1% 3-point shooter while going 39.8% from the field. Their 7’1 freshman center, Massamba Diop has started to turn a corner as well, leading the team in scoring last few games. UCLA will need to play team defense to defend the paint as Diop will tower over guys.

UCLA has not scored as many points as Arizona State. But the strength of schedule has been much harder with Gonzaga and Arizona on the dock. The Bruins will look to get great play from Tyler Bilodeau. Who has been the Bruins best player this season and playing great since his return from injury. They are still waiting from that breakout game from Donovan Dent against a good opponent. He was the star transfer that the Bruins brought in to make a deep March run.
“We knew it was going to be a game of runs. Every tough game is going to be like that. We just have to stay together, keep our confidence and keep fighting.”

This feels like a game that UCLA can get back on track. There has been a lot of criticism in their play. Backs are against the wall as they hear the chatter of flaws in their game. As we approach the halfway mark of the season. The margin for error is getting smaller as there are some Big Ten elite matchups still to play. This is a game that could help them boost their confidence. Arizona State is no rollover, and they will not go down without a fight. UCLA clicks on offense and defense and gets a convincing win at Pauley Pavilion.
Prediction: UCLA 86 - Arizona State 73
