UCLA has already received commitment from two of the top safeties in California in the 2027 class. After landing the No. 2 and No. 4 in Khalil Terry and Pole Moala. They now looked to grab the No. 1 ranked safety in the state in Gavin Williams. As they have been ranked as a top four finalist for the star from Damien High School in La Verne, CA. This would be a tremendous addition to a class that has already creeped up into the top 20.

Bob Chesney and his staff have been hard on the recruiting trail and have the possibility at a top 10 class for 2027. They’re flipping recruits from top schools like Oklahoma, Michigan and Ohio State. This is not something that has been done since Jim Mora was the head coach. It is phenomenal to see and UCLA football is quickly moving up peoples boards. The vibes are immaculate and everything is changing for the school in a positive way.

Williams is a flat out ball player and is the No. 9 ranked safety in the nation. He has good size at 6’1 and 195 pounds and will continue to bulk up once he gets to college. The other three finalists are USC, Washington and Notre Dame. He will visit all four schools before making a decision on his playing future. UCLA with what they’re building, have a really good chance at landing him and moving up more in their rankings.

Williams will begin his senior season in 2026 to add to his high school totals. He currently has 148 career tackles, 13 pass breakups, 10 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles and 11 interceptions. UCLA is the first of the four schools he will visit on May 15, 2026. Maybe Chesney could impress him so much that he leaves the building and doesn’t go to the other three schools. With how quick he has been getting players to sign, it is not 100% out of the question.
