A potential transfer option for Bob Chesney and the Bruins has hit the transfer portal. As star running back for James Madison, Wayne Knight intends to enter. With ties to Chesney, he could be a great player the Bruins could bring in to help ignite the offensive rebuild. Providing returning quarterback Nico Iamaleava with a good handcuff that can change the game. Knight rushed for 1,373 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding 40 catches for 397 yards and another touchdown through the air.

UCLA still has Anthony Woods and Jaivian Thomas on the roster. But neither has become an every down back. Allowing the Bruins to have opportunities available for incoming players. It also is a possibility that more players currently on the UCLA roster will enter the portal as well. Creating more space for Chesney and his staff to rebuild the roster the way that they would like. With their players coming in with a mixture of players he likes on the current roster.

Knight is a small back with good wiggle and footwork. He only stands at 5’7 and 190 pounds. But you can look at a similar build in Maurice Jones-Drew who created a successful career with UCLA. Knight could be a guy that can change the offensive dynamic. Something else he can provide is good punt returning skills as well. This past season he had 20 returns for 180 yards. Changing field position is a big positive in football.

As long as he is in the portal, he will remain a very intriguing option. It will be interesting to see if Chesney has any interest, considering he coached him. The last few years, you have to believe there is mutual feelings in a possible reunion. Over the next few months, a lot of James Madison players will be connected to UCLA. This is one that many fans hope will come true and can emulate some Jones-Drew vibes in some way.
