By Ryan Kay
First, let's take a look at those players who are in the transfer portal and those who made commitments to play football elsewhere this upcoming season.
Three players entered the transfer portal but have not yet decided on where they are going to play football for the upcoming season.
UCLA saw some football players leave the program in 2024 by entering the transfer portal. Here's a quick breakdown.
- Defensive Backs: The secondary took a big hit with departures like Kamari Ramsey (USC), John Humphrey (USC), and William Nimmo (San Diego State).
- Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: The Bruins also saw some movement at wide receiver with Kam Brown (Purdue), Carsen Ryan (UTAH), Kyle Ford (TBD), and Jerry McClure
- Other Positions: Quarterback Dante Moore (Oregon), Offensive Lineman Jake Wiley (Houston), and Linebacker Choe Bryant-Strother (undecided) are among other notable players who left UCLA.
These departures suggest UCLA might be looking to rebuild depth in some key areas, particularly the defensive secondary and wide receiver positions.
Let's take a look at those who are transferring in to UCLA to play football this upcoming season.
UCLA is relying on the transfer portal again to fill its roster in 2024. It is due to a lower number of total incoming high school recruits in their incoming recruiting class and because several players left for the NFL Draft and entered the transfer portal this offseason. Here's a summary of some key incoming transfers.
Defense:
Collins Acheampong (DE, Miami): A big-bodied defensive end who will be counted on to bolster the pass rush. K.J. Wallace (CB, Georgia Tech): A seasoned cornerback with experience and tackling ability. Ramon Henderson (S, Notre Dame): A senior safety with potential, but less experience than Wallace.
Offense:
Rico Flores (WR, Notre Dame): A talented wide receiver who could emerge as a playmaker.
Michael Carmody (OT, Notre Dame): An experienced offensive tackle who will add depth to the offensive line.
