2013 was one of the best UCLA seasons in the last 25 years. For the first time in many years, they had a good offense and a good defense. Usually, it was one or the other. They scored 36.9 points per game, which was good for 20th in the nation. While the defense only gave up 23.2 points per game which finished as 34th in the nation. Fans were excited as UCLA football was getting to be really good again. This would be their first double digit winning season since the miracle 2005 season.

Brett Hundley continued his dual threat of being able to run and throw the ball to give defenses fits. He threw for 3,071 yards and 24 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions. While also adding 748 yards on the ground and 11 touchdowns. Hundley truly established himself as a star quarterback in college football. UCLA started out the season 5-0 which put them up to No. 9 in the nation and in BCS bowl talks.

After the 5-0 start they lost two straight road games against No. 13 Stanford and No. 2 Oregon. Knocking them back to No. 17 in the nation. But they were able to respond with three wins after that. Moving them to 8-2 on the season. In a battle of top 20 teams, they would fall to Arizona State, before ending the season with a win versus rival USC. Then beating Virginia Tech 42-12 in the Sun Bowl, finishing with a 10-3 record.

Anthony Barr became a top 10 pick after 20 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. Myles Jack the star freshman became a two-way sensation at running back and linebacker as well. Becoming the first player ever to win both offensive and defensive PAC-12 freshman of the year. It was another step in the right direction for Jim Mora as he was now 19-8 in his first two seasons at head coach. Reaching heights the team had not seen since Bob Toledo and even Terry Donahue.
