Myles Jack came to UCLA as a freshman for the 2013 season. Listed as a linebacker, his natural position. He became known as a two-way player. Filling in as a running back and taking the college football world by storm. For the first eight weeks of the season, he just played on the defensive side of the ball. Needing a 1-2 punch with Paul Perkins and UCLA dealing with many injuries. UCLA put Jack in at running back and he had a three-week run for the ages. Scoring six touchdowns while also playing his linebacker role.

Jack’s most memorable moment that season came against Washington in a 41-31 win. He carried the ball 13 times for 59 yards and scored four touchdowns. As he topped that off with five tackles on defense. It was all a part of him being named both Pac-12 defensive and offensive freshman of the year. His 75 tackles that year were the second most by a true freshman in UCLA history behind the late great Kenny Easley. He also finished with 38 carries for 267 yards and seven touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball.

Jack would move back to just mainly linebacker for his sophomore year. Due to concerns about being overworked and injured. He would come in situationally to get first downs but not play many plays on offense. But his freshman year will always be one of the most special ones in Bruins history. It is not often that we get to see players play on both sides of the ball. We also got to see Travis Hunter just recently do it and win a Heisman Trophy. It takes a lot of stamina and determination to do it.

Jack would only play three games has senior season and then suffer a knee injury. After that season he would enter his name into the 2016 NFL Draft where he went to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round. Becoming a key part of a very good defense. Injuries would hamper his NFL career, but he would become very successful off of it. He is now the owner of Allen Americans who are a professional hockey team in the ECHL. We appreciate the career he gave us at UCLA!
