UCLA started the season reeling at 0-4 and now were faced against the No. 7 team in the country in Penn State. They were almost a four-touchdown underdog and now had an offensive play caller that had never called plays in his life. Did Jerry Neuheisel have what it takes to call the perfect game? He sure did, UCLA pulled off a magnificent upset and played their best game of the season. The offense finally hit its stride and the Bruins looked like a decent football team for the first team.
PURE HEART!

The Bruins take down No. 7 Penn State, 42-37, at the Rose Bowl!#GoBruins pic.twitter.com/sYniM1Znfr
With their touchdown in the first quarter, the Bruins took their first lead which was almost 245 minutes into the season. The 6-0 lead was the first second that they had led in the first 4+ games. They continued to roll from there, looking to pull off the monumental upset. The offense was humming as they took a 27-7 lead into half. But knowing at some point, Penn State would try to make a comeback. They sure did as they brought it within 27-21 in a matter of minutes in the third quarter.
UCLA was able to stay strong though and get a touchdown back of their own to push it back to 34-21. Each time Penn State would drive down the field, UCLA would punch back and score a touchdown of their own. When UCLA needed to milk the clock, they were able to do just that. Walking away with a 42-37 win and carrying new play caller Neuheisel off the field. Where was this team for the first four games of the season that was playing so inspired?

The Bruins had 435 total yards of offense and 269 yards on the ground. They also played disciplined football. As they only had five penalties for 35 yards on the day. Nico Iamaleava had 128 yards on the ground and three touchdowns while also throwing for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Kwazi Gilmer showed smooth route running on his way to five catches and 79 yards with a touchdown. While Anthony Woods and Jaivian Thomas showed when there are holes they could capitalize with 123 yards combined.
UCLA just upset Penn State #7. That’s incredible.. this is just another reason I love college football.
