In her last preseason tuneup game. Lauren Betts proved why she was one of the top players in the WNBA Draft. As she posted 17 points on 7-12 shooting in a 83-72 win over Atlanta. Setting her up nicely for her regular season debut this upcoming week. She looks to show the three teams in front of the Washington Mystics, they made a mistake by not drafting her. Her ability to change a game on offense and defense makes her a generational player.

Betts led Washington and scoring in both preseason games. She should be able to lead Washington in scoring for the season as well. As she looks to change the franchise around and back into a winner. Betts, who is fresh off of leading UCLA to a national championship win, is prepared for the challenge. She pairs with her UCLA teammate in Angela Dugalić in growing the Mystics franchise.

There will be some rookie growing pains that come along the way. But she has every opportunity to be the rookie of the year in 2026. She has shown improvements in her offensive game. But her ability to be elite on the defensive end, makes her an instant contributor to the team. She will have her fair share of double doubles and games with 3-5 blocks as a rookie.

Betts has the talent to be able to average 20 and 10 while being one of the best defensive players in the league. That gives her the ability to in three years show she should’ve been the No. 1 pick in this draft. Which will give Washington all the joy in the world that she dropped all the way down to No. 4 to them. We’re excited to see what Betts and Dugalić are able to do together in Washington!
