Angela Dugalić moved to the bench for her senior season at UCLA. This was due to the Bruins bringing in Giana Kneepkens as a transfer. The move paid off with a championship for UCLA and for Dugalić who went No. 9 in Monday’s WNBA Draft. She now joins the Washington Mystics and will team up with UCLA teammate Lauren Betts. Betts was taken at No. 4 which started a historic run for UCLA in this WNBA Draft.

Dugalić is a very smart basketball player that will be effective at the professional level as well. She plays hard nose defense and is always in the right spot. Her stat line will make people question why she was picked so high. As she inky averaged 9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this past season. But she does everything so well, that you cannot read into stats with every player.

Dugalić is a prototypical professional player. Whatever she has asked, she is able to go in and do. During the NCAA tournament run UCLA would’ve been bounced by Duke in the Elite Eight if it wasn’t for what Dugalić did that night. The UCLA starters outside of Betts were 11-28 shooting and the Bruins were down eight at half 39-31. Dugalić kickstarted a rally and on the night she had 15 points only trailing Betts 23.

The Mystics relied heavily on UCLA players in this WNBA Draft. They’re getting two very good players that are coming off of a NCAA championship. They’re also veteran players with a lot of big game experience. Both will be able to step in right away and help Washington trend in the right direction. Two very good defenders and will give them offensive output as well. This was a good pick and don’t let the stat line readers change your mind on that.
