UCLA is in need of a true traditional center. If they really want to shake things up in the transfer portal. There is still a very good option available that would change things instantly. Massamba Diop is one of the best players still available in the transfer portal. At 7’1 he fits the mold of a traditional center, and he is an instant game changer. As a freshman at Arizona State last season. He averaged 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.

With three years of eligibility remaining, it gives him tremendous upside. Although he is very talented and will test NBA waters at some point. There isn’t another player available that is going to give you the impact that he will down low. Diop no matter where he goes will start at center and be a true difference maker for a team. UCLA would be a long shot, but if they want to make a play, this is a guy that is worth it.

UCLA struggled with shot blocking last season. While they watched two of the top shot blockers of the nation in Aday Mara and William Kyle III change their teams. The tough part is both of those players played for UCLA in the 2024 season. They could’ve each been heavily used for the 2025 team and helped the paint defense. The Bruins need to get back to having a player that can anchor down low.

The Bruins have been very active in the transfer portal and will continue to be with three open scholarships still available. Diop is a player that should be considered if you truly want to go out and get a big man. You can get a guy that will give you more and more upside on the offensive end. But will immediately come in and be your best defensive player, and you will not have to worry about rim protection.
