UCLA has been very active in the transfer portal so far this offseason. They have added Jaylen Petty, Sergej Macura and Filip Jović. With three open scholarships still remaining, they figure to still be busy and bringing players in. One of those players are set to visit today in John Blackwell. This is by far the biggest name UCLA has brought in. He is a big-time talent and many schools are after him.

UCLA will need to do whatever they can to try and bring Blackwell in and get him to commit. He is an elite player and can score the ball at an enormous pace. He averaged 19.1 points per game this past season for Wisconsin. Doing so on 43% shooting and 38.9% from 3-point range on 7.3 attempts per game. This would be the most talented scorer UCLA has had in a long time. He would pair very well with Trent Perry.
Blackwell only has one year of eligibility remaining. But with the mix of UCLA going younger with players with more eligibility. They compare that with bringing in the soon to be senior to help them compete this season and then for more seasons down the road. There won’t be many more players that can score the ball like this that will be on UCLA‘s radar. This is as good as it gets and UCLA needs to go all out for it.

The Bruins are putting together a nice little roster for the 2026 season. There are questions whether a Perry, Petty and Blackwell three-guard set is too small. But, that is a very talented scoring bunch and you cannot pass up that opportunity. If you can get Blackwell to commit, you put yourself in a really good position for the 2026 season. Then you get a wing player and a true center with the last two scholarships.
