How UCLA's basketball will win five straight games beginning this week
By Ryan Kay
UCLA basketball is 1-1, but unlike last season, the Bruins will win five straight games entering Big Ten play.
Let's first take a look at who the Bruins are playing in week two play.
On Veterans Day, UCLA hosts Boston University.
On Friday, the Bruins host Lehigh for their fourth regular season game.
Both teams are 0-2, and these games will be on the Bruins's home court. Unlike last season when UCLA defeated at home UC Riverside in November by only one point and later in non-conference play lost at home to Cal State Northridge, this Bruins team will not only win these two games this week but win by double digits in each game.
Here is where each team is ranked in the three college basketball analytic ranking systems that was used in the power rankings.
Let's take a closer look at Boston U:
KenPom Rank: 292
EvanMiya Rank: 249
T-Rank (Barktorvik): 287
Here is a look at Lehigh:
KenPom Rank: 280
EvanMiya Rank: 283
T-Rank (Barktorvik): 246
In comparison to UCLA who is considered a Blue Blood program, a Big Ten school, and has the resources and talent on the basketball court to defeat these mid-major teams in non-conference play.
This is a look at UCLA and where they rank:
KenPom Rank: 35
EvanMiya Rank: 32
T-Rank (Barktorvik): 27
Prediction for this upcoming week's games.
UCLA's next three games after week two play.
UCLA hosts Idaho State in their fifth regular game of the season.
The Bruins play another in-state team in Cal State Fullerton.
UCLA hosts an undefeated team in Southern Utah from the WAC in their seventh regular season game of the season.
Predictions for these three games that would give UCLA a 6-1 record heading into Big Ten play.
Here are four valid reasons why UCLA will win their next five games and go to a 6-1 record.
Superior Talent and Depth: The Bruins' roster is filled with talented returning, transfer, and incoming freshmen players who are collectively far better than any of their next five opponents. Their skill, experience, and athleticism give them a distinct advantage over their upcoming five opponents in non-conference play.
A more manageable level of competition: UCLA's next five games are against less talented mid-major teams at home compared to their recent matchup against New Mexico from the Mountain West on a neutral court. This upcoming schedule provides an opportunity for UCLA to dominate and build momentum heading into Big Ten play against Washington.
Home-Court Advantage: All five upcoming games will be played at Pauley Pavilion, where UCLA has a strong home-court advantage. The Bruins have proven that they play better at home than on the road or on a neutral court.
Motivation to bounce back from a disappointing loss: After facing a tough loss, UCLA is likely motivated to regain its winning form and prove to its fans that it is not the team from last season. This added motivation should fuel UCLA's performance and drive it to win five straight games.
