Donovyn Hunter will be a key piece as UCLA rebuilds their roster after championship run

Donovyn Hunter comes to UCLA as a transfer from TCU. She is a three-year college player that also had to stop at Oregon State in her freshman season. She will be a senior this season and expected to play a veteran role on this young UCLA team. Her ability to score the basketball and defend will play a huge role for the Bruins as they try and replace a ton of production. After losing six seniors to the WNBA Draft.

Hunter had the best collegiate season of her career last season with TCU as a junior. She averaged 10.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, while also having 1.3 steals per game on defense. UCLA is coming off of an historic defensive season and look to build that mindset with a new roster. Hunter defends the ball well and looks to translate that over to her new squad. She will play a good amount of minutes for UCLA in 2026.

Hunter should also be able to improve her consistency form 3-point range. She is a veteran player with 111 career college games. But at 33.7% from long range that is below average shooting. Cori Close does a great job at getting shooters open for easy looks. We’ve seen her improve the efficiency of so many players over the course of her coaching career. Charlisse Leger-Walker is a great example of that and what she did for her game.

Hunter should have the most efficient season of her college career in 2026. UCLA will need every bit of it as they try and build a championship contender again. Hunter might’ve felt that her best chance of making it to the WNBA is coming to UCLA. As she saw the Bruins break the record for the number of draft picks in 2026.
