It sounds like a recurring theme with James Madison players hitting the transfer portal. That UCLA should be interested in quite a few of them. It is easy to put the two together because of Bob Chesney heading to UCLA after coaching James Madison to the College Football Playoff. The Dukes had one of the best defenses in the nation. A huge contributing factor was Justin Eaglin who was another player that decided to test his future in the transfer portal.

Eaglin who was a junior this past year was an All-Conference performer. While displaying great ballhawk skills that led to five interceptions on the season. Including one against Oregon in the CFP. That would be excellent for a Bruins defense that struggled with turnovers last season. Eaglin had as many interceptions as the entire UCLA defense combined. Bringing in playmaker to help Chesney‘s rebuild would be phenomenal.

Eaglin should be a top target on defense along with Sahir West who could be a good starting piece on the defensive line. If you create pressure, turnovers will come. That is where you need have guys that can make plays back there and Eaglin fits that bill perfectly. It remains to be seen if players will want to follow Chesney. There have been no indications if players are close with staff or if they will seek out other opportunities that may come at a larger school.

This will be another intriguing story to follow if Eaglin could make his way to UCLA. As it will be with other James Madison players. The turnover has begun, and it is for the better. UCLA has a unique opportunity to accelerate this rebuild. Especially with the school putting in more NIL money to help entice players. Bringing in top talent will help boost them into the top half of the Big Ten.
