The UCLA women’s basketball team had an emphasis on going younger this offseason as they look to rebuild into a contender. They lost six seniors to the WNBA after winning the national championship. Now they look to build the same way that got them there. That being said they needed a veteran for this young team. One that can slide in and help out returning senior Timea Gardiner. They did just that with the addition of Addy Brown.

Brown comes over through the transfer portal after three seasons with Iowa State. She is a very good player that can score the ball as well as rebound. She will slot right in as a starter at the forward position alongside Sienna Betts. Helping create a solid starting lineup for Cori Close. One that is going to be able to rebound the ball very well and get out in transition.

It is no secret that UCLA had one of the best defending teams of all time in 2025. They most likely will not be able to replicate that type of production. But they’ve done a solid job in rebuilding on the fly. Brown has a very good opportunity to have a good senior season and cement her WNBA Draft status in 2025. Close does a fine job in helping out her players get to the next level and she will do the same with Brown.

Expectations for UCLA in 2026 are to get to the NCAA tournament. They have the roster that is able to do that. Betts, Lena Bilić, Bonnie Deas and crew will be multi-year players in this system. Expected to take big leaps in their sophomore year. It will help to have two leaders that have played in big games in Gardiner and Brown. As they both pass on knowledge in their senior years to the younger players and can make their cases for the WNBA Draft in 2027.
