The Kansas Jayhawks basketball program was essentially created by the legendary Dr. James Naismith, who is widely considered the inventor of basketball. The Jayhawks have won four NCAA championships, in 1952, 1988, 2008, and 2022. They have also appeared in the Final Four 16 times and have won over regular season conference titles going as far back as when they were members of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference..
Kansas is known for a lot of things and has a long history with many traditions and customs. Their home court is Allen Fieldhouse, which is known as “The Phog” and is one of the most iconic arenas in college basketball. Their fight song is “Rock Chalk, Jayhawk,” which is one of the most famous and popular fight songs in college basketball.
The Jayhawks have had a number of players and coaches who have won awards and achieved great accomplishments starting with Wilt Chamberlain, who is considered one of the greatest college basketball players of all time, played for the Jayhawks from 1955 to 1957. As well as other famous former Kansas players in Danny Manning, Paul Pierce, and Joel Embiid.
The Jayhawks have also had some legendary coaches such as Bill Self, who has been the head coach of the Jayhawks since 2003 and has won two NCAA championships and 17 Big 12 regular season titles. Other notable former Kansas coaches are Roy Williams, Larry Brown, and F.C. “Phog” Allen.
Kansas without a doubt is one of the four most successful college basketball programs. The Jayhawks are still recruiting very well and will more than likely still continue to win Big 12 championships and make deep runs in the NCAA tournament.
