Go Joe Bruin takes a look at five songs that should be considered for the UCLA football team’s Rose Bowl entrance in 2018.

With great Kelly, comes great musicality. So this fall, when the UCLA football team takes the field of the Rose Bowl as they emerge from the locker room, they are going to need a tune that not only gets the team pumped up, but the fans as well.

With that in mind, GJB takes a look at five songs that could make perfect entrance music for the Bruins’ next chapter under Chip Kelly.

1. “All The Stars” by Kendrick Lamar (with SZA)

Seriously, who hasn’t seen ‘Black Panther’? It was a monumental superhero films that was paired with one of the best movie soundtracks in recent history. The song “All The Stars” is one of the better songs on the album that was fabulously produced and on top of that, it is so damn catchy! The beat thumps, the melody grooves and SZA’s lyrics get you right in the heart. Seems like a perfect song to get the emotions going. Suck it, Nick Bosa.

2. “Blue and Gold” by The Ghost Inside

Admittedly, this song would scare half the crowd with its metal-based rhythms and shredding guitar, but it is just so addictive! Not only that, the fast tempo gets the heart pumping in a matter of seconds, perfect for a Chip Kelly football team. The lyrics also provide a connection to UCLA as the singer yells out, ‘FLY THE BANNER, BLUE AND GOLD!” Now imagine one the cheer or dance team members standing at the 50-yard line furiously waving the UCLA flag back and forth while this song plays. Killer!

3. “Spotlight” by Marshmello

Marshmello is a producer/DJ that has slowly been making his way in to the spotlight (pun intended). Like a slow rolling thunder that will eventually land with a “BOOM” (kind of like a certain football team, get it?), Marshmello has created several catchy tunes that get the party going. So why not get the Chip Kelly party going with one of his tunes?

4. “Feel It Still” by Portugal. The Man

If you want a song that gets everyone in a good mood instantly, has a catchy melody and memorable lyrics, than this is the song for the Bruins. This song by the innovative Portugal. The Man never fails to get heads bobbing and for the start of a UCLA game in the Chip Kelly era, fans are going to want something to get them in the mood.

5. “Sabotage” by The Beastie Boys

Yes, this is an older song, but it is still a classic (I can’t believe it was called “classical music” in the recent ‘Star Trek’ film). This epic Beastie Boys song never fails to get listeners in the mood to do something (ANYTHING!) at breakneck speed and seeing as that is something we are going to have to get used to with Kelly’s offense, why not start the game off right with a little audible “violence”.
