UCLA Football Spring Practice Quarterback Preview (cont.)

Carta-Samuels is going to be the most intriguing QB out of all three. He has good accuracy, a quick release and can throw the long ball. The difference between Carta-Samuels and the other two is that he is more of a pro-style passer than a dual-threat.

Though he might not be the prototypical Kelly QB, I am sure the new coach has a plan for him. Additionally, he has already enrolled as a grad transfer so he will participate immediately.

There are a lot of tools in the cupboard which gives Kelly a lot of options. If I was to give my opinion right now, I would say Modster has a shot at the starting spot, but that could change (or not even be announced) until the week before UCLA’s season opener against Cincinnati at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, September 1. Who knows? By then, DTR could have made an impact, but realistically speaking, Modster, Lynch and Carta-Samuels will have a bit of an advantage on the new QB with spring under their belt.

Still, it is going to be one of the biggest storylines of spring as the Bruins do not have a clear cut starter as they did with Brett Hundley and Josh Rosen the last few seasons and we will let you know all about it starting March 6.
